NJ Neighborhood Restaurants

The area around us has great restaurants with the added bonus of being 30% less then NYC. We highly suggest checking out at least a couple of these places while you are here. This by far is not an exhaustive list. We have so many more places, so if it’s not on this list please try it. (Unless it’s Teri Teri. That is terrible sushi; don’t go there. I have no idea why they are still open.)

Also if you just too tired after a day in the city, many of these options are on Seamless. Seamless is a online web-based food delivery app. Its works great in this neighborhood!

Aumm aumm

This is my favorite place in the neighborhood at the moment. The pizza and wine is very good. Not exactly like the pizza at L'Antica Pizzeria Da Michele, (I’ve done the 3 hour wait like an idiot. next time, take-out) but it’s a close facsimile to the style of Naples pizza. It also has a lovely romantic atmosphere

Brazeiro Churrascaria

One word Rodizio. It's fabulous and just a bit ridiculous the quantity of protein you will end up eating in one sitting. It’s real brazilian charcoal roasted succulent flavorful chunks of meat, that don’t stop until you’ve had enough. $29.95 and worth every penny. I have now attended this meat extravaganza enough times that I know that the Sirloin Medium Rare is typically everyone’s favorite. I just get that as an entree #5 for $15.95 + 2 sides. It’s still an insane amount of meat but just the best meat in my humble opinion.

Taqueria Mexicana

Tacos, Tacos, Tacos, 2$ each. These are really good tacos. 2 are enough for most people; however you can go for broke and get 4. I really love the Carnitas, Seasoned Pork. They also have really wonderful Horchata; not too sweet. Just get the small size, the large is basically a quart of liquid. The Tortas are also off the hook, but again it’s really about the tacos here.

BANANA KING

OK so if you are looking for a late night snack at 2am Banana King is where you go. You can see this place from our living room and get a feel if there is a line. They are an cultural institution and it’s usually packed at 1 am on the weekends. They are known for their shakes which can be made with condensed milk if you like it sweet. They have a good breakfast combo and their Arepas are also tasty.

Korean food - fairview, fort lee, cliffside park

We are now in the section I call “Korean Food” We are just south of a very large (3rd in the country after LA, and Flushing) Korean population. As a result they have an insane amount of places to eat. I have to be honest I’ve only been to a few places so I can’t give you the full rundown. Many of these towns are a quick uber or even attainable by the Bergenline buses. (You just have to make sure they are going north of the park.) It’s worth the trip to go to a korean resturant if you’ve never been. BBQ is what they are famous for but all of their food is good. My favorite part is the banchan; they are the little side dishes they serve before and during the meal. It’s a freaking meal in itself and it’s Free! So download Yelp and check out which flavor of place strikes your fancy and then fire up google maps.

LAS CHICAS: SUPER CLOSE BY

They have great coffee con leche and really good breakfast.sandwiches for not much money. They are about a 2 min walk and our typical go to if we are feeling really lazy about breakfast.

Lotus - Thai

Lotus how I love thee….. We go to this restaurant often. It’s a 10 min walk and has a nice atmosphere. Delivery is good but the food is just better when you are there. They default to basically non-spicy since it’s the US. If you want Thai normal level ask for a 2, If you want spicy a 3. Warning 3 is spicy. I’ve been to Thailand and it’s a bit more then their standard spice level. I’m not able to handle Thai drunken noodles but I can handle their level 3. In regards to the menu, Thai Spicy Mussles are really good! We always order a order of rice to soak up all the lovely broth. Also BYOB but their is a liquor store right across the street.

Harry’s Food & Drink

This is our local cocktail bar. Yes we are not in Brooklyn, but if we want to feel like we are there we come here. Drinks are solid and food was good. Not amazing but good. They have a wonderful Sunday Brunch set for $25 with unlimited mimosas and a small jazz trio. That partnered with a view of the park is great!

Dulce De Leche Bakery

I could wax poetic about this place. They are the Argentinian version of Cake Boss. However with a much better range of offerings. They have amazing, F’ing amazing, desserts. Fresh squeezed orange juice and fun little picnic sandwiches. Even with all that I find myself walking down to try their wonderful breakfast items. That’s saying something since I have Tres Chicas literally on our corner. The croissants offerings are intense. All of this for really reasonable/low prices.

PLATTER KING

The Kings Classic Platter $8.95. Enough food for 2 for all intensive purpose. It’s just super flavorful. The hot red sauce and the white sauce just dance and make magic together. I just had this for lunch and I’m also going to have it for dinner. It’s that good.

Mitsuwa Marketplace - Santouka Ramen

So if you are willing to take an Uber for $10 from our place; I highly suggest going to this large Japanese Grocery Store. You can pick up your fancy sashimi soy sauce, fresh fish for sashimi and Japanese snacks. Then they also have an awesome food court with several different types of restaurants attached to it. Santouka - Spicy Miso Combo D Size Small. It really isn’t that spicy; but the depth of flavor is just better then the other versions. The melty pork side dish just is the perfect combo with the soup. It’s worth the trip and honestly with no lines better then trying to go to a famous ramen place in the city.

Korean Wings.JPG

Pelicana Chicken - Korean Style

This is the one Korean restaurant I can recommend without feeling like there are other options out there just as good. The chicken wings are very very good. By my korean friends they consider this is the best in the neighborhood. ( Again Transportation typically is needed) Korean Chicken is something to behold if you’ve never partook. So good. So freaking good.
