The most reliable way to get here from the city is via the bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal. PABT is located  in Times Square on 42nd and 8th.  There are 2 buildings; go in either one.  They connect to each other upstairs and there are bathrooms upstairs as well.

During the day go to Gate 200 on the 2nd floor. Buy a round trip ticket in the station from a ticket kiosk near the gate, you want Route 159, Zone 2.  At Gate 200 there are 3 buses to choose from, any of them will work  with your ticket and get you here: 159, 159X, 156.

The bus will drop you off at 74th Street & Bergenline. You will need to push the stop button to indicate that you want off. I typically look for the Banana King and push the stop button as soon as I see it. There is a Delta gas station on the left hand corner. Our house is 1 block west, the big yellow one on the corner.

At 10pm the buses do change gates. After which you will need to verify with the NJ transit employee which gate to go to. Cost for a one-way is$3.50

Going into the city we typically go to BLVD East down by the cliffs. The buses tend to run more frequently and it’s a beautiful ride that looks over the entire city view. We then just take whatever bus arrives first Jitney or NJ transit.  (Not the Ferry bus unless we are taking the ferry)

JITNEY BUSES

Privately operated jitney buses, also known as gypsy buses, provide public transportation between New Jersey and New York.  They do not run on published schedules or routes, and operators keep no information online. They won’t show up on google maps.

These buses both depart, and let you off, next to the port authority in times square.  They go much more often then nj transit. They cost $3 one-way.

Going into the city we typically go to BLVD east down by the water.  (Option b listed above) and then just take whatever bus arrives first jitney or NJ transit.  (Not the ferry bus unless we are taking the ferry) then we almost always take the jitney home at night.  We pick the bus up at 42nd right next to the dunkin donuts.  You pay as you get on and you ask bergenline? If they say yes, that is your bus.  You will have to call out next stop when you want off.  Just like with NJ transit, I look for the Banana King to let me know when my stop is. UBER/Lyft is by far the fastest and easiest to get in an out of the city.  However it’s also the most expensive.  Below are a list of fares based on a Sunday Busy Day Rate.  Rates can definitely shift if there is rain or it’s rush hour.  Please take these rates as a “Happens Sometimes” and not as a guaranteed thing.

Newark – Our House: Pool $27 / Uber X $42 / Taxi $76 w/tip, fees and tolls.

LGA – Our House:  Pool $65 / Uber x $68

JFK – Our House:  Pool $91 / Uber X $109

JFK to our house I would suggest taking the E Train to Port Authority. Then either take the bus or a Uber to our house from there.  They also have an express bus to Port Authority that is easier if you have a ton of luggage. You then don’t have to navigate the subway with your stuff.

Our House -Times Square:  $42

Our House - Union Square: $44

Our House - Fort Lee ( Korean Neighborhood) : Pool $10 / Uber X $15

Our House – Hoboken Path: Pool $10 / uber X $13

PARKING

Its not great to park in our neighborhood. Please remember that we are just outside of NYC. During the day it’s pretty easy, but after 6pm you are going to need to drive around a bit. You must have a pass to park overnight and to leave your car longer then 4 hours during the day. Below is the overnight pay station locations. The library is the closest one to our house.

Tips: Make sure you pay attention to driveways, street cleaning signs and allowed parking rules. Always find the parking sign and read and understand the rules before you leave your car. Sometimes there is only one sign per block so pay attention. If you can’t find one, don’t think you are safe. You may be better off finding a place that does have a sign so you know for a fact who is allowed to park there.
