JITNEY BUSES

Privately operated jitney buses, also known as gypsy buses, provide public transportation between New Jersey and New York.  They do not run on published schedules or routes, and operators keep no information online. They won’t show up on google maps.

These buses both depart, and let you off, next to the port authority in times square.  They go much more often then nj transit. They cost $3 one-way.

Going into the city we typically go to BLVD east down by the water.  (Option b listed above) and then just take whatever bus arrives first jitney or NJ transit.  (Not the ferry bus unless we are taking the ferry) then we almost always take the jitney home at night.  We pick the bus up at 42nd right next to the dunkin donuts.  You pay as you get on and you ask bergenline? If they say yes, that is your bus.  You will have to call out next stop when you want off.  Just like with NJ transit, I look for the Banana King to let me know when my stop is.
